Hopeful

The texts in this publication are the result of a collaboration with leading scientists and historians from academic centres in Portugal, England, Brazil and the USA. Focusing on a 1919 expedition by British astrophysicist, Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington, to the island of Príncipe, a former Portuguese colony located in the Gulf of Guinea, these articles contribute to the project through which Paloma Polo explores the direct relationship between scientific development and colonial expansion in European imperial powers.
