Eulàlia Grau stands out as a key voice in critical feminism and social
commentary. Since the 1970s, she has produced a series of works based on
photographic montage and screen printing, incorporating images taken
from the press and media in which the limited sharpness and black-andwhite
contrast evoke the language of photojournalism.
In the series La discriminació de la dona, the artist directly addresses
the subordinate status of women through collages made from silkscreen
prints, which show the sexual division of labour, feminisation of domestic
tasks and exclusion of women from public spaces. Secretaries, factory
workers and housewives coexist with images of female prisoners, with or
without their children, highlighting female exploitation and inequality in
contrast to men, who operate in public and professional environments.
Through this contrast, the artist shows how the media, with its images and
discourse, perpetuates gender roles, while denouncing this reality and
inviting us to question its influence on inequality.
