Paz Muro is a multidisciplinary artist linked to conceptual art, land art and performance. In the early 1970s, she participated in exhibitions at the pioneering Buades and Vandres galleries, while also collaborating on projects with photographer Pablo Perez-Minguez. Her work repeatedly addresses gender stereotypes linked to femininity from a critical perspective. At the first ARCO Art Fair in 1982, she staged this performance, following the script of a wedding ceremony, walking in procession alongside her bridesmaids from her home to the fairgrounds on the Paseo de la Castellana. Upon arriving at the venue, the wedding march sounded from a player built into the wedding dress. Finally, both Muro and her clothing were pictorially intervened upon by fellow artists and fair attendees, metaphorically staging the consummation of her marriage to contemporary art. Paz Muro conceived this performance as a critique of the commercial art world, in which Transavantgarde painting had taken on special prominence.
