Ángeles Marco was one of the most prominent artists in the New Spanish
Sculpture renewal of the 1980s and 1990s. A pioneer in the Valencian scene,
where she taught for two decades, her work shows theoretical influences
from post-Minimalism, Constructivism and international conceptual art.
Iron was the main material in her work, with its strong, metaphorical
personality, while she also incorporated other materials such as rubber,
plastic, canvas, wax, glass, wood and salt.
She often worked on pieces grouped into series, enabling her to
experiment with di!erent object-based or conceptual variations of the
same form, which act in the field of visual perception and in the relationship
between sculpture and space. These pieces belong to one of her most
representative series, Salto al vacío, in which an enigmatic scenographic
nature coexists with a strong existentialist charge running through all her
work, linked to transit, emptiness, loneliness, instability, absence or flight.
Both the sculptures and her works on paper speak of this instability of
events, like settings for an uncertain fate awaiting a fortuitous accident.
