Serie Blanda B (Soft Series B)

In the 1970s, Luis Gordillo’s work took on decisive importance within the Spanish art scene, establishing itself as a renewing force in a context characterised by the end of Franco’s regime and the need for new visual languages. During these years, the artist consolidated a unique poetic style based on the tension between automatism and control, and on the constant dialogue between the rational and the subconscious, while incorporating manipulated serial photography into his practice as a structural tool. Gordillo transforms the image into an organism engaged in a process, constantly on the verge of disfiguring and recomposing itself. By combining elements of informalism, pop art and experimental geometries, he creates a hybrid territory where psychology, irony and perceptual distortion occupy a central place. This is the context from which Serie Blanda B emerges, a paradigmatic piece in his research into repetition, photographic manipulation and visual misinformation. Within the piece, each image, a head from an advert, is sealed in plastic envelopes and altered, transforming it into a pictorial and photographic object that embodies his exploration of a soft, mutable corporeality, pierced by internal tensions and altered geometries.
