Sueño 25 (Dream 25)

Although he pursued an independent career, Pedro Mora was a contemporary of the Seville artists of the 1980s who made up the Nueva Figuración (New Figuration) group linked to the magazine Figura. His first solo show took place in Seville in 1986; two years later, he participated (on María Corral’s initiative) in Milan’s 1988 Spagna Oggi exhibition. In 1994, he took part in the exhibition Anys 90. Distància zero (The 90s: Zero Distance) at the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica in Barcelona (curated by José Luis Brea), with a similar piece entitled Hongos en la habitación (Fungi in the Room).
According to its author, Sueño 25 is a work that suggests the contamination and growth of museum walls. It reflects the artist’s interest in conceptual art and land art, which led him to consider that ‘art is in itself grafted nature’; thus, according to his reasoning, it constitutes an intimate space, on the border between the interior and the exterior, the living and the non-living, where memory manifests itself as a revelation. It expresses the tension between life and museum through a form of institutional criticism. The elements making up the piece are identical modules resembling construction elements, although they are made of cellulose, in which petrified plant life is disseminated.
