Interventions and R&D Projects
Some of the department's most relevant works
This section outlines the specific conservation and restoration procedures carried out on a wide variety of supports and techniques used in contemporary art, such as painting, sculpture, cellulose materials, textile art, electronic art, film, digital art and performance art, among others. Notable among the department’s R&D projects is research conducted on the state of conservation of Guernica using advanced technology to capture ultra hi-resolution images in visible, infrared and ultraviolet light and 3D. These methods have also been applied to analyse other works from the Museo Reina Sofía Collection, which are available for consultation in the Gigapixel section of the website.
Furthermore, the Museo coordinates the PROCOERS project, a protection plan in emergency situations to ensure artworks are properly conserved, in collaboration with other institutions.
