Biblioteca y Centro de Documentación del Museo Reina Sofía
The Museo Reina Sofía Library’s collection of comics and fanzines stems from work to research, analyse and document its holdings, conducted in conjunction with the rearrangement of the rooms that made up Collection 3. From Revolt to Postmodernity (1962–1982) until 2021. The materials in question are, therefore, related to different aspects of Spanish counterculture from the 1970s and 1980s which had hitherto lacked adequate representation in the Museo and seldom included original publications of this kind, with the exception of issues of La Codorniz prior to this period.
As a result, there are currently pivotal editions of Spanish comics, for instance the magazines Star, Butifarra!, Trocha/Troya, Makoki, El Víbora, etc. and a specific series devoted to Nazario, the Fondo Colección Nazario. Over fifty fanzine and independent publication titles are assembled and conserved, and at the present time work is ongoing to expand the collection.
From the Museo’s networks, some of these materials can be consulted online via LaDigitaldelReina. Consultations from external networks may be restricted due to intellectual property rights.
