Andrey Guaianá Zignnatto
Interview
This video features an interview with artist and activist Andrey Guaianá Zignnatto (Jundiaí, São Paulo, Brazil, 1981), whose practice comprises the knowledge, experiences and cosmogonies of the Guaraní mby'a and Dofurêm Guaianá peoples from which he descends. His work sets forth a critical dialogue on the tensions between tradition and contemporaneity, for instance in ABAPORU # 1 (Estudos sobre métodos de grilagem cultural) (2020), currently on loan at the Museo Reina Sofía, through which he interpellates, revises and questions the central place of the anthropophagic movement in the nationalist imagination and Brazilian modernism.
