Boris Izaguirre on Retrato de Luis Buñuel, by Salvador Dalí

This interview sees writer and presenter Boris Izaguirre (Caracas, 1965) speak about the work Retrato de Luis Buñuel (Portrait of Luis Buñuel, 1924), by Salvador Dalí (Figueres, Girona, 1904–1989). 

Izaguirre points to how the work joins many of his personal interests: his fascination with film, his admiration for Luis Buñuel, Salvador Dalí and Federico García Lorca, and how these three brilliant figures coincided in time and place. In addition to regarding Dalí as the first Spanish Pop artist, whose personality preceded his work, he stresses the importance of film as new, revolutionary art for that generation, and how this work encapsulates that spirit in a prefiguration of what Buñuel would be as a film-maker. For Izaguirre, a masterpiece which is not only moving but also educates and engenders multiple readings.
