Abierto el plazo para participar en el nuevo grupo de estudio sobre EL DESVÍO Y LA DIFICULTAD de las prácticas en el arte actual
Under the title Difficulty. Forms and Political Effects of Diversion in Writing and Contemporary Art, the study group is aligned towards thinking about how certain contemporary artistic, literary and cultural practices resist the referentiality that dominates logics of production and the consumption of present-day art.
The Museo Reina Sofía’s Studies Directorship presents the study group Difficulty. Forms and Political Effects of Diversion in Writing and Contemporary Art, which opens Goodbye, Representation, a research strand with which the Museo seeks to explore the emergence of contemporary artistic and cultural practices that move away from representation as a dominant aesthetic-political strategy and turn attentions towards artistic languages which question the tendency to highlight, name and fix to back fugitive aesthetics. Over its three-year duration, the research strand will materialise in different study groups, seminars, screenings and other forms of public programmes.
The ten study group sessions, which unfold in the period stretching from February to December, combine theoretical seminars, work with pieces from the Museo Reina Sofía’s Collections and exhibitions, and reading workshops. Modalities which all serve as spaces of encounter to think commonly about certain problems related to the perceptibility and materiality of artistic and poetic languages, in addition to their capacity to invent forms of signifying, referring and producing worlds.
The registration period is open until 12 January 2026 and those selected will receive confirmation by 2 February 2026. The sessions will be held on: 23 February, 23 March, 20 April, 18 May, 15 June, 6 July, 7 September, 5 and 26 October, and 14 December 2026; from 4pm to 7pm. Aimed at people with an interest in research, theory, writing and contemporary art, twenty places are available, while five accommodation grants are offered to those selected who live outside Madrid.
