Education
Shared Learnings and Experiences

The educational project puts forward, activates and streamlines a broad programme of actions and resources to foster access to the Museo Reina Sofía’s Collection, temporary exhibitions and public programmes. Articulated via a framework of pedagogical reflection and a socio-community programme of action, the set of activities and projects in question seeks to break down the multifarious barriers that stand between the practices, discourses and works of contemporary art and people of all ages and from all backgrounds. The aim, via education resources and cultural mediation practices, is to support and accommodate visitors and their experiences in approaching contemporary art, to activate support processes and to encourage people’s desire to explore the Museo and to nurture citizen participation.

Education programme
The educational programme articulates around four major Sections, which are complemented with other transversal programmes that blur the limits that exist between them.

Schools. The education programme intended for schools is made up of visits, encounters, activities, teaching materials and specific projects which constitute different ways of building relationships between school and museum, with the Museo making its content and resources available for consultation to the school community.
Communities. This Section offers programmes, activities and projects to children, young people, families and senior citizens in order to create links that bring about affective spaces of knowledge, thereby fostering meaningful experiences and encounters among different communities.
Mediation. The Mediation programme, aimed primarily at intergenerational adult visitors, offers different-format guided tours around the Museo Reina Sofía Collection and temporary exhibitions, in addition to other formats that create dialogue as an expanded idea of cultural mediation.
Accessible activities. The Museo also organises programmes tailored to people with and without disabilities with a desire to delve deeper into the idea of universal access, cultivating safe spaces for people with different capacities and generating structures that welcome everybody.
