Look Closely. With One’s Own Eyes

Date and time

Held on 06 mar 2025

De visu (With One’s Own Eyes) is a series of public encounters set up to present some of the Museo Reina Sofía Library’s most recent acquisitions, additions which enrich its collections. These sessions foster a more profound understanding of the works presented and their relevance within the current context of art and culture, as well as serving as a place of encounter for people interested in publishing as an artistic practice.

The activity unfolds through a brief introduction to each of the selected books or documents, shining a light on different authors, publishing houses and contexts in which the works were created. The people who attend the workshop will have the chance to flick through the copies, ask questions and engage in conversation.

In this instance, the session focuses on artists’ publications recently acquired by the Library, publications which, understood as printed material originally conceived of and designed by an artist as works of art in their own right, make up one of the Museo’s salient collections and constitute one of the main channels of acquisition and enrichment in its bibliographic heritage.

This new project is developed inside the framework of Look Closely, one of the strands that configures the mediation programme Almost Books, which is centred on spotlighting the Museo Reina Sofía Library’s holdings and disseminating specialist tools to conduct research into art and contemporary creation by way of workshops, courses and themed guides.
