Group Visits

Information for visits with groups of 8 people or more

Online Registration for Group Visits

Group visits (between 8 and 30 people, including a guide, teacher or person in charge) must be booked online.

There are three types of group visits:

  1. Groups with free admission: including students of Infant, Primary and Secondary Education, A-Levels, Vocational Training, and Degrees or Postgraduate studies, as well as working teachers and people with a disability.
  2. Groups with reduced admission: visits organised by associations, institutions, foundations and schools linked to museums, cultural heritage and Fine Arts.
  3. Groups with general admission: all groups not included in the two categories above.

Group visits must be booked previously online, a minimum of 24 hours in advance, given that they are subject to availability and to a maximum number of group members.

Prices are applied to the general group, regardless of whether one of its members fulfils individual requirements for free or reduced admission.

Please remember that this type of visit does not include museum guides and there is a maximum number of accompanying people (teacher or guide) per group.

The visiting times for groups is from Monday to Saturday (except Tuesdays) from 10am to 7:45pm, and Sundays from 10am to 10:45am. To ensure access when booking group visits, please choose a time slot; however, there is no set length of time for group visits and you can stay in the Museo for as long as necessary. For capacity reasons, members of group visits are not allowed to leave the site and return again.

Group visits are available every day of the week, except public holidays, when the Museo is closed, and on those days when admission is free for everybody.

Please check public holidays and days when the Museo is closed.

The Day of Your Visit

Whether arriving on public transport or privately, there are different options for getting to the Museo.

On the day of your visit please arrive 15 minutes before the booked time slot, unless your booking is at 10am, when the Museo opens, in which case you do not need to arrive beforehand.

All groups must access the Museo by the Nouvel Building entrance (Calle Ronda de Atocha, 2), with the exception of those made up of students up to 12 years of age or people with a disability, who will access through the Sabatini Building entrance, located between the glass lifts.

Please remember that groups with reduced or free admission must submit a document of accreditation, signed and stamped at the Museo’s Ticket Offices, on the day of their visit.

If a group member is not included on the booking but wishes to join the visit, that person can register with the group and pay the corresponding admission price. A maximum of 5 additional visitors can join each group.

We recommend arriving at the Museo without backpacks, suitcases and other large belongings given that there are a limited number of lockers and they may be in use when you arrive. Backpacks exceeding 50 cm on their longest side are not permitted in lockers.

Starting Your Visit

Tickets include access to the Collections and temporary exhibitions (except for those with an allocated time slot or special admission price).

At the entrance to the Museo, each group member is identified with a label which they must keep visible at all times. Groups wishing to receive explanations in the exhibition rooms are also identified and must use the radio-guides (the group guide system) when they are made up of people over the age of 12. School groups must remain together during the visit.

Groups of more than 8 visitors who are not identified as a group will be dispersed in the galleries and, therefore, will not be able to receive group-guide explanations.

Resources for Visits

Radio-guides

The group guide system (radio-guides) is obligatory for all groups made up of visitors over the age of 12 who are going to receive in-gallery explanations. These wireless devices enable visitors to hear guides’ or teachers’ explanations without interference and without the need for raised voices. They do not include pre-recorded content.

Visitors can bring their own devices or hire them at the Museo, where they are available at the audio-guide desk, located at the Nouvel Building entrance.
